Breed Traits
The Wyandotte comes in many color variations, but can be identified by their small body stature, weighing in between 5-7 pounds from hens to roosters, as well as their fairly flat rose comb, bright red face and wattles, and distinctly yellow legs. The hens go broody regularly and make wonderful mothers.
Breed History
A Silver Laced variety was the first Wyandotte to be bred in the state of New York where it won acclaim as the "American Sebright", a reference to the beautiful feather pattern of a true bantam breed, the Sebright. In 1883 the bird was accepted to the American Poultry Association under the name Silver Laced Wyandotte, and were followed closely afterwards by other striking color variations.
