Breed Traits

This strange looking bird gets it's name from it's neck which grows no feathers with the exception of a small tuft at the very front and lower half of the neck. However it is also devoid of feathers under it's wings, around the vent, beneath the saddle feathers, at the first joint of the wings, and lower thighs. It's skin is quite smooth with no feather follicles or sockets on the bare areas.

Breed History

The Naked Neck is claimed to have originated in many countries surrounding Eastern Hungary and Germany, but it is said that the Naked Neck reached its peak potential from breeders in Germany set on developing a bird that was easy to dress and maintained productivity through the winter. Their breeding resulted in a bird that has less than half the feathers normally possessed by other fowl of their size.
