Frizzles are believed to have originated in Asia. They are not a breed of chicken, but rather Frizzles are chickens that carry the frizzle gene, which is a mutated gene. To breed for Frizzles, it is imperative to mate a Frizzled chicken with a non-frizzled, or smooth-feathered chicken. Mating two Frizzles together will create offspring with a pair of frizzle genes which causes their feathers to be overly curled and dry. As a result, the offspring are sparsely feathered or their feathers are exceedingly brittle and broken, so they look like they’ve been plucked!
