WHY CHOOSE DARE 2 DREAM FARMS?
- MADE WITH LOVE -
All of our beautifully handcrafted coops are designed to offer you ease in caring for your chickens, provide the ultimate standard for protection and comfort for your flock, and add character to your backyard. We have been designing, building, and using our own chicken coops since we first started the farm. We understand the importance of a coop that is easy to access for feeding, watering, cleaning, and collecting eggs, well ventilated, and secure against all kinds of predators. Our coops are well-built and designed to provide the optimum amount of space for your chickens to live. Purchasing our coops guarantees that you can depend on our craftsmanship, and that you are supporting a small, humane, and sustainable business.
Our coops are built with your chickens' safety in mind from the wood to the wire.
Hardware Cloth (1/2 inch) is used instead of larger gage wire or chicken wire to prevent predators from reaching through larger 1 inch holes and to prevent them from tearing holes in the wire large enough for them to get in. This is used over all ventilation holes and in all the attached runs.
Premium Hardware is used not only for the finished look, but also to prevent predators such as raccoons from tearing the hinges off, or figuring out how to use simple latches to get into the coop.
BUILT TO LAST
Chickens are not a flighty trend. These girls will become your pets, and you'll want to keep them for years to come. With Dare 2 Dream Farms, you'll find a coop that will last you the length of your love for your girls.
Quality Lumber (redwood or doug fir) is used to build our coops so you won't have to continue replacing parts on your coop as they break year after year. Small coops built with Chinese Fir are often broken during shipment, during assembly, or within the first year. Our coops are built to last over time, and will weather well.
Sturdy Framing allows you to deconstruct your coop and put it back together in a new place if you or your flock has to move.
A HIGHER HUMANE STANDARD
Small store bought coops often claim to hold many more chickens than they reasonably and humanely should. They contain most or all of the features needed for a coop, but often these features are too small, misconfigured, or unusable.
Chickens per Coop: The absolute minimum amount of space for a coop is approximately 10 square feet per chicken in the coop and run altogether. Free ranging your chickens will allow you to have a smaller space for them to sleep in, but more space to access for exercise and foraging during the day. Our coops rated for a lower and more reasonable number of chickens so they will not become stressed out in close quarters.
Real Roosts that allow your chickens to perch about 18 inches off the ground will make your chickens feel safe, as opposed to the small 3-5 inch high roosts in smaller store bought coops.
EASY TO CLEAN
Cleanliness is the first and best trick to keeping a healthy flock. Here's why our coops are easier to keep clean than others.
No Poop Trays: Poop trays are a gimmicky and sticky feature. Those that are deep enough to hold litter will stay clean, but often the litter is knocked out when it's pulled from the coop causing a mess on the ground that you have to clean up. Those that aren't deep enough to hold litter get caked in chicken poop that must be scrubbed off and smells terrible. Plus, when they're full, they're heavy and hard to manipulate to the nearest compost pile.
Large Coop Doors: All our coops feature one or two large barn like doors that provide you access to the inside of the coop to simply sweep out the soiled pine shavings or litter.
Removable Roosts: Our roosts are removable allowing you to bring them out and scrub them down to keep them clean.
